31 years ago this month, Transmetal released their first album featuring English lyrics!
In July of 1992, Transmetal released their fourth full-length studio album, “Burial at Sea” via Grind Core International.
Overview:
Produced by Eric “Griffy” Greif, “Burial at Sea” finds Mexico’s Transmetal revisiting earlier material from their 1990 release “Sepelio en el Mar”, only this re-working would contain English lyrics in place of the bands native Spanish, which would dominate their previous releases. “Burial at Sea” is a raw, primeval display of unadulterated Thrash and Death Metal, and finds Transmetal paying homage to such old-school Thrash acts as early Voivod, Dark Angel, and Coroner. And, while it doesn’t lessen the impact of the album, it is apparent that English is not lead vocalist Alberto Pimentel’s first language, which ultimately adds to the unrefined aspect of the album. Think early Sepultura, ie; “Morbid Visions”.
About Eric “Griffy” Greif:
For over thirty years, Eric Greif or “Griffy as he was referred to by friends, had been in and out of the international Metal scene in various guises. As well as co-promoter of Milwaukee Metalfest, he produced albums for bands such as Morbid Saint, Invocator, Acrophet and Viogression.
As assistant manager of Motley Crue at nineteen years old, Greif managed the career of genre innovator Chuck Schuldiner and his band Death from 1988 to 1992, only taking a break to graduate from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law. His legal clients stretched from Cynic, Massacre, Obituary and Autopsy to Canadian acts Weapon, Striker, KEN mode, Anciients and Mortillery, to Metal labels such as Season of Mist.
Eric used to run all aspects of Chuck Schuldiner’s intellectual property as President of Perseverance Holdings Ltd. and Mutilation Music (BMI). Eric was a lecturer at Mount Royal University's Department of Justice Studies.
