36 years ago today, we experienced the “Pain and Misery” of a “Social Overload”!

On this day (July 7) in 1987, Toxic released their debut full-length studio album, “World Circus” via Roadrunner Records.

Background:

In 1987, Toxik signed onto Roadrunner Records (previously titled "Roadracer Productions" at the time of signing), debuting their first full-length album, “World Circus”.

The release of the album saw one of the first introductions to the, "Progressive Thrash Metal" genre, charting on College Music Journal's "Best New Metal Album of the Year" for 1987 and were offered a number nine slot on the Metal Blade Records "Metal Massacre" series with the song, "Wasteland".

After touring for “World Circus”, vocalist Mike Sanders left Toxik for unknown reasons, to be replaced by Charlie Sabin.

The album was re-released by Metal Mind Productions and Displeased Records in 2007.

Critical Reception:

Upon its release, German Metal magazine Rock Hard raved over the album while giving it a rating of 9/10.

The magazine also went on to say;

“TOXIK's "World Circus" has to be counted among the best releases of this month. An LP that simply contains everything that a good debut needs to help a band get a solid starting position in the HM circus. TOXIK have definitely achieved this with songs like "Heart Attack", "Voices", "World Circus" or "Victims", all of which can best be compared to Nasty Savage (varied, extreme and original). Josh Christian, guitarist and main songwriter, puts a stamp on the whole thing with his original, also somewhat idiosyncratic playing, which could also be a co-guarantor for the targeted breakthrough. "World Circus" is definitely a successful debut for TOXIK, a foundation upon which to build. And if everything goes according to plan, we will surely hear a lot more from the guys. Welcome to the HM Circus!!!”
