22 years ago today, we were βIn Solitudeβ among βThe Unknownβ βGarden of Stonesβ!

On this day (July 9) in 2001, Finnish Gothic Metallers To/Die/For released their second full-length studio album, βEpilogueβ via Spinefarm Records.

Background:
In 2000, the band toured Europe together with Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced and In Flames. Bassist Miikka Kuisma quit the band and was replaced by Marko Kangaskolkka, who had played with the band in its early years. The band then released "Epilogue", the successor to "All Eternity".

"Epilogue" is a dark, depressive, melancholic, release, full of despair and heartache. The album is not as heavy as their debut, but it has a grander production quality, in part due to To/Die/For drummer Tonmi Lillman handling production of the album. Epilogue's also features Tanya from Lullacry who provides backing vocals for the album. β E.N. Wells

Critical Reception:
Reviewing βEpilogueβ for Metal-rules.com, Luxi Lahtinen writes;
ββ¦what I found far more interesting and actually kind of a Β΄braveΒ΄ move from the guys, is how they have widened the overall sound of theirs just a little bit further out of the Gothic/Metal genre into a more basic rock sound without sacrificing any bits from their own specific sound. They experiment here and there just a little bit more than a band from this particular genre is actually allowed to do without selling its true soul for the sake of commercialism andβ¦ (!) -whatever! Besides all that, they have become a bit lighter yet melodic and even catchier than we remember them being on their debut. They indeed have taken a few more important steps forward into the right direction at these particular areas in my opinion.

I was especially glad to hear that even if they obviously had spent hours and hours and hours again at Finnvox Studio with βAll Eternityβ β kind of trying to find the absolutely right world and sound for it by the help of true sound wizards Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila playing the essential parts of the rich sound they had on βAll Eternityβ, I think this time around the aforementioned dudes made the impossible possible for coming up with even just a thousand dollar richer and better sound for βEpilogueβ which apparently ainΒ΄t much these days, but certainly was enough for this album anyway. YouΒ΄ll notice a vast improvement when you draw a comparison between βAll Eternityβ and βEpilogueβ, thatΒ΄s for sure.β

Following the release of the album, To/Die/For embarked on a tour with Lacrimosa.
