On November 20, 2007, former SKID ROW vocalist Sebastian Bach released his first solo studio album (third release altogether) Angel Down via MRV/ Get Off My Bach/ Caroline/ EMI Records.
The album was produced by Roy Z (Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden), and features "Metal" Mike Chlasciak (Guitar/ Halford), Johnny Chromatic (Guitar), Steve Di Giorgio (Bass / SADUS, Death, Testament, Iced Earth, Control Denied, Dragonlord) & Bobby Jarzombek (Drums/ Riot, Halford, Fates Warning).
Background:
Bach’s first release since 2001’s Bach 2: Basics, Angel Down is also his first release of original studio recorded material featuring songwriting contributions from Axl Rose, Desmond Child, Roy Z, Adam Albright, Bobby Jarzombek, and Ralph Santolla (R.I.P. / Death, Obituary, Deicide, Iced Earth, Toxic).
Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses) guests on three tracks including; (Love Is) a Bitchslap, Stuck Inside, and a cover of Aerosmith’s Back in the Saddle. The album also features the tracks American Metalhead & Live & Die originally released on the album Metal for Life (2005) by “Metal” Mike Chlasciak’s Painmuseum. Adam Albright plays guitar on Angel Down, Ed Ross performs piano and strings on the songs By Your Side and Falling into You & Roy Z plays guitar on the tracks You Don’t Understand, (Love) is a Bitchslap, By Your Side, and Our Love is a Lie.
Angel Down garnered attention due to Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose's guest appearance on the three tracks and Bach's appearance on MTV's Celebrity Rap Superstar. The front cover art of the album is David Lees' photo for Life magazine of the 1966 Florence flood.
A DVD is included on the limited edition of the album and features a documentary titled Roadrage made by Sebastian Bach himself and features a close look at the making of the album and backstage vision with the Trailer Park Boys.
The DVD also includes six live performances and a music video.
Critical Reception:
In an exclusive preview of the album, Paul Cashmere of Undercover described Angel Down as "The Metal album of the year, if not the 21st Century so far."
On October 27, 2007, Back in the Saddle was played on the Texas radio station Q94.5. According to the station, the phones rang off the hook when the single was played and it became the station's No. 1 most requested track and also charted at number 4 in Finland, however the album only debuted at No. 191 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, selling 6,400 copies in its first week.
Side Note:
Bach also has the album cover tattooed on his arm. The tattoo was done by Kat Von D. He was a celebrity guest on her show LA Ink.
