On December 12, 1997, Limbonic Art released their second full-length studio album In Abhorrence Dementia via Nocturnal Art Productions.
“Finally we worked with an expanded budget, and one full month in the studio. A very natural development, musically speaking we had more time for improvisation, adjustments, and active help from the producer. Two female vocalists participated during the recording. Quite calm conditions around the production, except for a very annoying housekeeper, who always ran down the doors of the studio to see that we didn't thrash his place... The studio was located basically in our own neighbourhood, which was a real comfort for us.” — Limbonic Art
Background:
The album was recorded in autumn 1997 at Pete's Place recording studio, Sandefjord, Norway. It was produced by Peter Lundell and Limbonic Art, with mixing by Peter Lundell. Sequencing for the album was handled by Simen Scharning and Morfeus. Band photos for the inner album art were taken by Kenneth “Grim” Lindberg for Nocturnal Art Productions.
Overview:
Less than a year after releasing their debut album Moonlight In Scorpio, Vidar “Daemon” Jensen and Krister “Morfeus” Dreyer (otherwise known as Limbonic Art) headed back to the studio to record their follow-up, resulting in one of Symphonic Black Metal’s most auspicious albums, In Abhorrence Dementia.
Among the copious number of great releases in 1997, including; Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk (Emperor), Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (Dimmu Borgir), and Goat Horns (Nokturnal Mortum), In Abhorrence Dementia stands out among these and other Black Metal albums of the year, due to its dramatic ambience and attention to the motif of the album as a complete framework, rather than the isolation of each song as a solitary refrain.
Something else that you will notice, is that the keyboards are the nexus of the album, where the guitars are merely accent pieces, imitating that of the keys. These elements, bound with the pained screams of Daemon, along with vocals by Morfeus and additional female vocals by Anne “Morgana” Aasebø & Lisbeth Fagerheim, are just a glimpse of what makes In Abhorrence Dementia such a magnificent Symphonic Black Metal opus. — E.N. Touring:
Limbonic Art supported In Abhorrence Dementia by opening for Emperor during their Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk tour. The band Aeturnus was the opening band for these shows.
Noteworthy:
Track four is incorrectly entitled "When Mind and Flesh Departs" on the back sleeve.
A specific mispressing of Ad Noctum - Dynasty of Death erroneously features this album's material synced up incorrectly with the former's track lengths.
