FROM THE CRYPTS - CELEBRATING PAST ALBUM RELEASES in the HISTORY of HARD ROCK & HEAVY METAL…
On October 27, 1992, Dismember released the 5-track EP, Pieces via Nuclear Blast.
Background:
Following it’s release, the band immediately went out on tour with Napalm Death and Obituary. They played for thousands of fans throughout Europe, thus reinforcing their status as one of the best live bands in the world of Metal. An official video was released for the song Soon to Be Dead, which was directed and produced by P. E. Eriksson, H. Wiman and Z. Lorentzon.
As the title of this EP suggests, the grinding, buzz-saw style of hyper-active energy that is Swedish Death Metal attacks the listeners sub-conscious until it is severed into, well… Pieces!
The EP by the blood-loving Death-Metallers (recorded at Sunlight Studio) includes new versions of Soon To Be Dead and Deathevocation as well as three new compositions. The songs are solid and full of the characteristics that made Dismember great, but with a uniformity underneath the bombast that was absent on previously released material. Scorching buzz-saw riffs slice through passages, honed to the perfection that is Swedish Metal engineering. Straightforward songs and elaborate cannonades of traditional-Metal riffs unite amongst the rapid-fire rhythms and arrangements that sets Swede-Death apart from the rest.
Note:
According to an interview with Fred Estby from 2016, besides the snare and cymbals, an electronic drum kit was used during the recording of this album. The same was done for the first 2 Entombed albums as well as the first Grave album.

Short Bio (The Beginning):
The band formed in Stockholm in 1988. After a hiatus, during which several members joined Carnage, the band began recording in earnest in 1991 and released their debut album Like an Ever Flowing Stream that year. The album is today heralded as a milestone for the burgeoning Swedish Death Metal scene and established the band's fanbase, which was further bolstered by the controversy surrounding one song in particular, Skin Her Alive. The song prompted an obscenity charge in the United Kingdom, against which the band successfully defended themselves.
