Defleshed - Royal Straight Flesh (2002)

FROM THE CRYPTS - CELEBRATING PAST ALBUM RELEASES in the HISTORY of HARD ROCK & HEAVY METAL…

On November 4, 2002, Swedish Thrash/Death Metallers Defleshed released their fourth full-length studio album Royal Straight Flesh in Europe via Regain Records (August 2003 in the US)

Background:

Defleshed began back in 91-92. Even though they had some difficulties with record companies at the time, they still managed to release four stellar albums, one live album and 2 mini-cd’s. It took 3 years for the band to gather the energy and inspiration to release Royal Straight Flesh, the bands follow-up to 1999’s Fast Forward (Pavement Music).

The 11 track album was recorded in June 2002 in only three weeks at Berno studio (known for such bands like The Haunted & Witchery) in Malmö, Sweden. It was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah etc.) at Dog Out studio.

The album is raw, brutal Death Metal. The only bad thing about this brilliant album is the length.

Note:

The group was formed by guitarist Lars Lofven, formerly of Convulsion and Inanimate. He was joined by ex-Crematorium bassist Gustaf Jorde shortly after recording a demo. In 1995 drummer Matte Modin joined the band. They have released several albums on high-profile Metal labels. In November 2005, it was announced that Defleshed had officially split-up. As of January 2021, Defleshed reformed and are working on new material.

Mathias has also worked with Nonexist and The Hidden as well as being a member of Dark Funeral. Gustaf is a member of the Danish band Illdisposed as well.

The band also had a side project named Vargavinter.

And, in case you hadn’t already heard, Defleshed are back with their 2022 release Grind Over Matter (released on October 28 via Metal Blade Records).
