Cavalera Conspiracy - Pandemonium (2014)

FROM THE CRYPTS - CELEBRATING PAST ALBUM RELEASES in the HISTORY of HARD ROCK & HEAVY METAL…

On October 31, 2014, Cavalera Conspiracy released their third full-length studio album Pandemonium in Europe via Napalm Records.

The album was later released on November 3 in the UK, and November 4, 2014 in North America.

Background:

During the writing of the album Max Cavalera almost considered naming the album Fuck That Groove because of how fast and brutal the songs ended up. In an interview with Loudwire, Max admitted to putting his brother Igor to the test, “It’s like trying to make him play fast like he’s 15-years-old … You’re gonna play fast the whole time and every time he was in a groove, I’d say, ‘Fuck the groove, get out of the groove and go back to fast.”

A new song titled Bonzai Kamikaze was uploaded to Napalm's official SoundCloud in August. The song is about Japanese kamikaze pilots and their fervor to commit suicide for their country.

Critical Reception:

In his review for angrymetalguy.com, Dr. Fisting wrote; “Pandemonium is the third Sepultura-related album I’ve reviewed in the past year or so. AMG undoubtedly sent it my way in the hopes that I would mock it relentlessly, and I hate to let him down. But despite its flaws, this record is one of the better things that either Cavalera has done in a while, and I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. These guys may not be breaking new ground, or even expending a whole lot of effort, but they sound like they’re having fun being as heavy as possible, and that’s gotta count for something.”

While a review from Metal Storm stated something quite similar; “Whilst the album doesn't really break any new grounds for Max, it's quite a decent listening experience. In many ways though, it is interchangeable with most of Max's recent offerings, be they from Cavalera Conspiracy or Soulfly, but then that's been the case for some time now. It's not going to appease the jaded Sepultura fans but for the rest of us it's a welcome addition in the Max Cavalera catalogue.”
