FROM THE CRYPTS - CELEBRATING PAST ALBUM RELEASES in the HISTORY of HARD ROCK & HEAVY METAL…
On November 19, 1996, Asphyx released their fifth full-length studio album Embrace the Death via Century Media Records.
Considered a rough mix, it was intended to be their first album, but it was not released.
Background:
After Tony Brookhuis left Asphyx, the remaining three members, Eric Daniels, Bob Bagchus, and Theo Loomans (R.I.P. 1998) recorded Embrace the Death in 1990 at Frankie's Recording Kitchen in Nieuwleusen, Netherlands. It was planned for release on C.M.F.T. Productions, but the label went bankrupt. The CD was eventually released in 1996 after Century Media Records acquired the rights for the album (Asphyx had already split up at that time). The Century Media release included the Mutilating Process EP.
Century Media re-released the album in 2009 as a deluxe edition with a second disc titled Ancient Wisdom. This disc included the Mutilated Process EP, the first version of the Enter the Domain intro, taken from the Enter the Domain demo (1989), the tracks Vault of the Vailing Souls, Thoughts of an Atheist, and the Venom cover Countess Bathory, taken from the second and third versions of the Enter the Domain demo (1989), while the tracks Crush the Cenotaph and a second version of Thoughts of an Atheist were taken from the Crush the Cenotaph demo (1989). The second disc also included four unreleased tracks.
