August 1987 — Armored Saint released their third full-length studio album, Raising Fear in Europe via Chrysalis Records. (Apple Music or Spotify)
Background:
The band recorded the album as a four-piece as guitarist Phil Sandoval had left Armored Saint during the recording of their previous album, Delirious Nomad, although he rejoined the band a few years later.
This was the last Armored Saint studio album with founding guitarist Dave Prichard (R.I.P.), who was diagnosed with leukemia in 1989 and succumbed to the disease on February 27, 1990, shortly before the recording sessions for their next album, Symbol of Salvation”. Prichard was only 26 years old at the time of his tragic passing.
A promotional single was released for the song Isolation.
Tour:
In support of Raising Fear, Armored Saint embarked on the Hell on Wheels tour with Helloween and Grim Reaper.
During the tour, Armored Saint was recorded live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show was aired on MTV's Headbangers Ball. (Watch video)
Throughout the 1980s, Armored Saint toured, or played selected shows, with many more acts such as Judas Priest, Metallica, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Saxon, RATT, Testament, Exodus, W.A.S.P., Dio, Accept, Fates Warning, Y&T, Malice, King Diamond, Great White, Stryper, Leatherwolf, Lizzy Borden, Savatage, and Danzig. By the end of the decade, however, the band were unhappy with their lack of success with the Chrysalis label, and following the release of Raising Fear they returned to their former label, Metal Blade Records.
