On November 26, 2012, ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง released their ninth full-length studio album ๐™‘๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฆ๐™ช๐™ž๐™จ๐™ ๐™„๐™ฃ ๐™‘๐™š๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™š๐™–๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š ๐—๐—‚๐–บ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐˜€.

For their first album in almost six full years, Incantation were set to prove, once again, that their vertigo-inducing, ever-spiraling blackened mass of Death Metal malevolence was as expansive, infinite and bleak as the coldest, darkest reaches of our universe. At the pinnacle of their storied career, the guys had engineered a brand new weapon of anti-biblical proportions.

โ€œIt got back together (the band) almost by accident. Initially, Chuck Sherwood (bass, also in Bloodstorm) and Alex Bouks (guitar, also in Goreaphobia) came in just to help me finish all the touring in 2008 but I really enjoyed jamming with them, and after about a year later Kyle said he was ready to rejoin. We instantly had the kind of chemistry that totally renewed my interest in the band, and the proof is in the pudding; that new album (๐‘ฝ๐’‚๐’๐’’๐’–๐’Š๐’”๐’‰ ๐‘ฐ๐’ ๐‘ฝ๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’†๐’‚๐’๐’„๐’†) almost came together on its own. It was a total band effort and thatโ€™s something I hadnโ€™t had in a long time as Alex is very opinionated and can stand up if he feels I havenโ€™t come up with a good enough riff, while Chuck came up with a lot of lyrics inspired by different historical massacres as heโ€™s a history nut.โ€ โ€” John McEntee
โ€œYou know, I like straight-forward Death Metal but with ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง I always knew it had to be a little bit more twisted and dark, expected but unexpected. We were very fortunate to have the time to forge our own brand of death metal yet I believe every album of ours has its own distinct personality. As a matter of fact we had too many songs to choose from for ๐‘ฝ๐’‚๐’๐’’๐’–๐’Š๐’”๐’‰ ๐‘ฐ๐’ ๐‘ฝ๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’†๐’‚๐’๐’„๐’† so weโ€™ve already composed a good chunk of its follow-up. It hasnโ€™t felt so good to be in ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง in a long time.โ€ โ€” John McEntee

๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง helped to define the sound of Death Metal and their ninth album doesn't stray far from the template. The macabre, lumbering grooves and aggressive blasts remain intact, but slightly brighter production gives the songs a different tint.

Supporting Tour & Festivals:

Prior to the albums release, ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง played with a stacked line up for 2011โ€™s Neurotic Deathfest, which ran from April 29th & 30th in Tilburg, Netherlands. Drummer Kyle Severn gave the following statement following their addition to (and prior to) the festival:

โ€œOn behalf of myself and ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, we would like to announce that we have just been added to the greatest indoor European death metal fest line up that we have ever seen. Yes, Iโ€™m talking about this yearโ€™s Neurotic Deathfest in Holland. ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง is honored to share the stage again with the almighty Autopsy, as well as the return of At The Gates, and other metal legends like Obituary, and new metallers of the 2K-era Hail Of Bullets. We plan to play a very obscure set in honor of this amazing line up and for our very supportive fans, old school and new alike. With a well rounded fest lineup bound together with leather and spikes, you will not want to miss this ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง setlist, which is already a making in the metal history. We are riding the metal storm out with the same line up as we had this time last year when we successfully spread blasphemy across Europe during our headlining tour for the highly respected 7โ€ EP ScapeGoat with Alex Bouks (Goreaphobia, Master) guitars, Chuck Sherwood (Blood Storm) bass, John McEntee on guitar and vokills and myself skinsmans Kyle Severn on the drumsโ€ฆ.Kyle666โ€ณ

๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง were scheduled to play the Gathering of the Bestial Legion V on August 11, 2011, but the venue had canceled all events due to a shooting the previous Saturday night where a person was shot in the stomach.

The promoters found out about the shooting on the following Monday. They contacted the venue and were assured the event was still good to go by management. On late the following Wednesday evening, they again touched bases with the venue and were told that their corporate office had canceled all live events and refused to honor the contract.

Fortunately, the festival was rescheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2012. Some serious, die hard metal will took both the Echo and Echoplex by storm whenย Autopsy, ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and Acheron headlined the Gathering of the Bestial Legion V with a slew of other acts including:ย  Ares Kingdom, Divine Eve, Infinitum Obscure, Grave Ritual, Hod, Sanguis Imperem, Ritual Combat, Crypt Infection, Depths of Misery and Infernal Damnation.

Critical Reception:

โ€œBy now, ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง really don't have anything left to prove, but with this latest release, have effortlessly set the bar ever higher for those than come after.โ€ โ€” Kim Kelly, Pitchfork (January 3, 2013)
โ€œ2012 has been a banner year for Death/Doom. Asphyx, Hooded Menace, Indesinence, INVERLOCH, and Emptiness have all released compelling material. (What am I missing?) But right now, Iโ€™m thinking ๐‘ฝ๐’‚๐’๐’’๐’–๐’Š๐’”๐’‰ ๐‘ฐ๐’ ๐‘ฝ๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’†๐’‚๐’๐’„๐’† might take the annual crown. Closer Legion of Dis is the best slow Death Metal jam Iโ€™ve heard this year; it starts with claustrophobic groove and gradually opens up into a gaping abyss. Listen for yourself.โ€ โ€” Invisible Oranges Staff (November 27, 2012)
