On November 27, 1990, Carnage released their debut full-length studio album Dark Recollectins.
It was originally released as a split CD with Cadaver's debut album Hallucinating Anxiety on the Earache Records sublabel Necrosis.
Some of the songs were later re-recorder by Dismember. Dark Recollections is the only album released by Carnage, the band had broken up by the time the album hit the streets. It was later reissued by Earache Records with 8 additional tracks, taken from the demos for The Day Man Lost and Infestation of Evil.
Deranged From Blood, Death Evocation, Blasphemies Of The Flesh and Self Dissection previously appeared on Dismember demos circa 1988โ1989, before Fred Estby and David Blomqvist joined Carnage. Dismember also officially recorded Death Evocation (a bonus track on reissues of Like an Ever Flowing Stream) and Torn Apart (on the Pieces EP).
Critical Reception:
In his review for AllMusic, Eduardo Rivadavia wrote;
โThe only release by Swedish deathsters Carnage, Dark Recollections has grown into a cult classic of sorts since its release in 1990. Following hot upon the heels of Entombed's landmark debut, Left Hand Path, the album combined new compositions with improved versions of songs from the demos recorded by the band over the previous two years. Except for ever-present guitarist Michael Amott (later of Carcass), Carnageโs membership was so unstable that the group seemed more like a side project for all involved than a full-time gig. In fact, the band had effectively ceased to exist by the time Dark Recollections saw the light of day. Which makes it even more surprising that such an unstable situation could result in such a cohesive, consistent effort. Only slightly less accomplished than Entombed's first effort, tracks like Infestation of Evil, Deranged from Blood, and the title cut display intricate arrangements which add plenty of color and variety to the unbridled fury and ear-crushing heaviness herein. Other less distinctive offerings like Gentle Exhuming and Self Dissection evoke Carcass both lyrically and musically. Basically, if you're into primitive Entombed and Grindcore in general, this is your bag, baby. [Finally reissued on CD by Earache Records in 2000 with eight bonus tracks taken from the band's two 1989 demos, Dark Recollections now delivers the final (and only) word on Carnage.]โ

More About Carnage:
Carnage was founded at the end of 1988 by Michael Amott and Johan Liiva in Vรคxjรถ, Sweden. They released two-widely traded demos, The Day Man Lost and Infestation of Evil in 1989. Plagued by lineup changes, Carnage eventually released their only album, Dark Recollections in 1990 when Michael Amott was the sole remaining founding member.
Michael Amott went on to join Carcass, and later formed Arch Enemy (with Johan Liiva) and Spiritual Beggars. Matti Kรคrki, David Blomqvist, and Fred Estby went on to reform Dismember.
